Remember when we here at CityBike admonished overly cautious riders for splitting with their hazards on because lane splitting isn’t a hazard if you’re doing it right? This right here is another commandment straight from the gentle but firm hand of God, or the vintage typewriters of CityBike, whichever you prefer—it’s the same, doncha know?
It’s been too long since I last wrote about our CRF250L long term dual-sport project. I crashed it at last year’s Backroad Bash and broke my foot, and the subsequent recovery time kept me out of the dirt for a while, although much to my doc’s chagrin, not off bikes in general.
We’ve ridden a lot of li’l bikes in the last year: Yamaha’s R3 and SR400, the latest Ninja 300, and both the KTM Duke and RC 390, so you may have caught this line before. Little bikes are fun.
But the Versys delivers. Loads of cargo? Check—tons of space. Smiles? Yep, for miles—it’s a blast to ride, in no small part because the intake makes a glorious racket when you twist the throttle with abandon. Loud exhausts are dead—long live intake whoosh.
